Hello.
I am planning to open up between two apartments in a house from the twenties. The apartments are on the second floor. Below us, there is one apartment floor, a ground floor with a utility room and commercial spaces, and below that, there is a garage. Above us, there are three more apartment floors + an attic.
I have had an engineer on site who assessed that the walls are most likely not load-bearing. The assessment was based on the fact that the walls in question are only about 15cm thick and the direction of the floorboards. I also had a craftsman here who made the same assessment as the engineer.
The walls to be demolished are marked in red on the sketch. The direction of the floorboards is along the short side of the house facade, not along the largest wall to be demolished.
The plan is then to install a double door in the remaining wall, and hopefully, the end result will be good after that.
I just wanted to do one more check by asking what you on this forum think. If you agree with the engineer or if there are any caveats?
Thanks in advance!
