I'm going to build a small loft/"shelf" in my in-laws' carport, but I'm a bit undecided on what dimensions to choose for the support beams and such. There will only be lighter things on the floor, and the height will be 10cm at the far end, going up to 65cm where you come up to put things in.
Attached is a small sketch of the dimensions I hope will be sufficient, plywood will be laid on it. View attachment LOFT.pdf
It totally depends on the span and load. 2.5 m is a completely okay span, load unknown. 95 mm is a bit weak if there are any major loads. On the other hand, it might be acceptable with some flex, if it's just a matter of storing a few pairs of skis there over the summer.
What is intended are the canopy and sails from a smaller (27 foot) sailboat, no heavier items. You don't want to be lifting heavier items from a ladder.
Also considering whether to go up to 120mm joists, there is a 170mm beam on one side today.
