Hello
I have a building that consists of a garage/storage. I would like to remove the interior walls and have it completely open. But I guess I need to put in a beam to support the rafters. I have cleared the entire attic so there is no weight other than the roof itself with tiles and "sticke tak".
The length is about 7 meters.
What do you think is required for beam dimension? And is a beam required?

What type of roof trusses are they?

Good question, the building is from 1926

You might need to take a picture of the attic. No one can probably give you an exact number, but depending on the type of roof trusses, it may be that the majority of the weight rests on the outer walls.

Don't know if these help you. I have built over it, so I won't be able to access the attic.

  • A small gray shed with tiled roof on a sunny day, surrounded by trees and a green lawn. A dog is near the building, and a barbecue grill is outside.
  • Hallway with wooden and concrete walls, outdoor view, red arrow indicating attic access above. Items stored in the far end.

I think an HEB 450 steel beam where the interior walls stood will solve this. You can let it rest on columns of the same beam. Make sure the columns stand on a solid base.
