I just received building materials for a garage from Xella. One of the beams is quite long, 4200x300x400 (L,W,H) and I can see that it has been stored lying down (because it is dirty on one side, which was obviously the top side during storage). Could this be a problem from a strength perspective?
I also wonder if the beam has a top side and a bottom side, I got the impression that they are cast with some tension in the reinforcement on the underside. I don't see any markings on the beam to indicate what should be up and what should be down.
