I have bought a split-level house built in '74. During the inspection, moisture was discovered in the insulation in the floor of the rec room. We managed to reduce the price of the house quite a bit because of this and have been recommended to use the Nivell system instead of the wooden joists that are currently directly on the slab.
My questions are:
1. Is the Nivell system the best option or is it okay to use durable plastic on the slab and then styrofoam + particle board (i.e., floating floor)?
2. How about laying a Platon membrane on the slab and then styrofoam + particle board with ventilated baseboards?
3. How do these alternatives differ in terms of price?
Thanks in advance!
