Hello!

Building interior walls with lecablock and wondering what is best to do above doors. Have talked to masons who suggest lecabeam, but it seems hard to find. The doors are 80 cm wide. Does anyone have tips on how I can do it?

Thank you, but I looked at these, my walls are 150mm wide, and then the beam should be the same size. I also thought they were expensive.

Hi!

I'm building interior walls with lecablocks and wondering what is best to do above doors. I've talked to a bricklayer who says leca beam but it seems difficult to get hold of. The doors are 80 cm wide. Does anyone have any tips on how I can do it?
You can do it yourself, cut/chisel out 2 lecablocks into a U then rebar and concrete in there.

Thank you, that's something like what I had in mind. Can't I then buy lecablock that are already scored like a U?

Are these new interior walls in an existing room, or will the walls carry any weight from above? If it's the first, then the concrete blocks above the door should only support themselves, and you can probably do as the craftsmen did at a relative's place; just make a temporary frame in the doorway and lay the concrete blocks above the door as usual - they are then just mortared to each other. They will also rest on the door frame, but there's not much weight in this case.

Thank you, that was a good solution. There won't be any load-bearing from above.

If you can access from above, you will get a good result if you lay a suitably sized steel beam and build a form around it, then vibrate concrete into place. I've done this myself both in the basement and on the garage build. Done correctly, it will be stronger than lecabalkar.

Thank you for all the helpful tips. There are indeed good alternatives to expensive pre-made beams.
