I am going to lay 22mm flooring chipboard on the existing floor in my house and it's for almost the entire ground floor.
I'm considering which direction to lay the flooring chipboards.
Normally, you lay it over the floor joists, i.e., not in the same direction as them. According to a somewhat poor image in a sheet that came with the flooring chipboards, it seems like you should lay the floor over the existing floorboards, i.e., in the same direction as the floor joists...
So what do the experts say, in which direction should I lay the flooring chipboards?
Lay it as you feel, with the board underneath it becomes stable enough anyway. I'm doing the same at home. Gluing under the boards and it becomes as solid as a rock!

May I ask the reason why you are not tearing up the plank flooring first? I imagine that interior walls might be standing on the plank flooring? Then it becomes really tricky to tear them out.

The kitchen is priority one so I want to start there, and along the floor joists is easiest BUT when I get to the openings into the hall and the room at the far bottom right, it might be easier the other way...

My walls that need to go are plank walls and are already gone. The reason I'm laying the gypsum on top of the existing floor is to save a lot of work, and it will only become more stable. The ceiling height, despite the extra floor chipboard and lowered ceiling, will be well over 2.4m.

There was a bit of a mistake there, I don’t understand how I managed to write Plaster instead of Floor chipboard!?

We will be laying Vinyl click flooring from Pergo on the entire ground floor except in the toilet.
I would probably have laid the floor particle board from top to bottom, across the plank floor and in the direction of the floor joists. And then the click flooring from left to right, which would be in the lengthwise direction of the room + kitchen.
I would probably lay the chipboard from top to bottom, across the plank floor and in the direction of the floor joists.

I think that would be a good solution as I can start in the upper left corner and get the kitchen done first.
If I get the floor in the kitchen area, I can start plastering because the kitchen is coming on Friday.
Laying the floor is probably the quickest part of your renovation, as long as the subfloor is flat.
Chipboard: glue in the joints and then a few screws per board.
And then a little sanding on the joints once the glue has dried.
Click flooring: thud thud thud, done in a day
The subfloor is not perfect but I think I'll solve it with some hardboard underneath in a few places. Picked up the first package with 30 flooring particleboards at the end of last week, so tomorrow I'll start as soon as the sink is removed...
