yes. OK if you only build a pillar that is just two stones.
but if you build larger, reinforce, fill voids with mortar, it becomes great.
and if you build, you can have any surface you want
Hi,

To lift this thread again. Here is another one who will either cast gate posts in concrete or build with Leca.
I like your comment and am interested to know more about what you mean by "build larger"??

I was thinking of a cast foundation footing of about 80*80, around 90 deep, and building on that with Leca blocks measuring 60*60. That will create a void which I plan to fill with coarse concrete with a sturdy beam in the middle (and wiring in a PEM hose). This beam will already be cast into the foundation footing, preferably even deeper.

I like Leca because it's half the price compared to casting and I can get any appearance I want, which fits well since the house is plastered.

As long as it holds, though.

Grateful for an answer.

if the pillar is only as wide as two bricks (which I thought), it may be quite unstable.
if you build with leca, you fill with concrete internally.
if you make it solid with "just" leca and mortar, it will surely be fine.

Then I understood you correctly, it will be super stable. Just need to find a couple of steel beams and start digging.

Reverse question; how would you handle the foundation and gatepost if you had to?

steel beams?

if I were to cast or lay bricks?

Exactly, which approach would you have chosen?

My alternative is a steel beam in the middle to reinforce. I don't know if it's the best solution.

good foundation, slab somewhat larger than needed. embedded reinforcement. build with bricks, and fill with concrete, should have sheet metal as rain protection

Possibly, I would contact the local vocational high school and see if they want to do the job.

Really good tips, thank you so very much!

you may ask more if it is fuzzy am dyslektriker

This case is clear... but I have to ask why bricks rather than leca blocks?
bricks are harder?
