I built a table/cushion storage for my balcony. I didn't have high ambitions, so I just bought cheap raw paneling and quickly nailed together this box.

Now I've come to the lid. I'm thinking about how to put it together. I don't want to use any battens or thick material under the lid since I need every centimeter in height underneath for the cushions, which fit just right without making the table too high.

I assume that just gluing the boards for the lid wouldn't make it stable enough, right? Does anyone have suggestions for a solution?

Now that you have finished sawing, you could have slightly longer planks and nail them to a couple of läkt, right and left, so they end up outside the box.
I don't believe in gluing at all.

Whether it holds or not depends on what you put on top .. ;)

I was thinking more about not wanting the lid to bend when I lift it.

You can rout supports either underneath or along the side ends. The råspont will shrink in width if the timber is not furniture-dry, you must take that into account.

How thick is the råspont? I would probably try gluing ...

Screw-glue a thin metal sheet on the underside.

Just glue them together, but do it under pressure between two smooth surfaces.

Make the lid in two layers of råspont, build upwards? One layer 90 degrees to the other, of course... Otherwise, I believe in the Scout's idea...

Cut off the length by the width of two boards and rout a groove in the end grain of the lid. Lay two tongue and groove boards across the width with their tongues fitting into the groove. Make sure to have gaps between the boards and screw one screw into each board so that the wood can move with moisture changes. This will prevent the lid from warping. It may twist, but that depends on your choice of material.

I did it this way instead. Went and bought a length of planed wood in the dimension 21x21. And I will saw off the length of the tongue and groove on the short sides and attach the newly purchased wood there:
