Is this wall load-bearing? I was thinking of removing the first stud that's next to the light switch and opening up to the next stud where the wall is cut.

I don't think it feels like a load-bearing wall!

It's the wall between the living room and the hallway/stairs on the drawing.

  • Wall with studs and partial drywall in hallway, section removed near light switch, displaying pipes and wires.
  • Wooden studs in a partially opened wall near a light switch, showing exposed framing and wires, questioned for its structural integrity as a load-bearing wall.
  • Floor plan showing ground level with rooms labeled. Discussion on whether a wall between the living room and hallway is load-bearing.

The stairs can hang on that wall. Apart from that, walls that run across the house are rarely load-bearing; instead, it is usually the long wall that runs approximately under the roof ridge.
