Hi, I don't think this interior wall is necessary for the stairs to hold together. It is a non-load-bearing interior wall that we want to demolish. But one of the stringers is screwed in three places to the wall, which still makes me a few percent unsure, although I think it was just practical during assembly at the time.

What do you with experience say? House built in 1980.

  • Staircase with white-painted railing and visible screws on non-load-bearing interior wall in a house from 1980.
  • A wooden staircase attached to a non-load-bearing interior wall with visible screws, context of potential demolition in a 1980s house.
Hello! I want to start tearing down like tomorrow, you should prioritize this thread!

I think the staircase will remain without the wall, but it is stabilized a bit by the wall. So it will work to take down the wall, but the staircase might creak a little more than usual.

The easiest thing to do would be to unscrew the three screws and check. If it feels bad, you can screw them back in.

Smart, thanks! It creaks a lot already, maybe it will be better without the wall
