Hello, is a C24 beam generally graded "more strictly" and with higher quality than a C14 beam? Can you be more certain of receiving "straight and nice" beams if you order C24? They are not to be used as structural timber with strength requirements, so from that aspect, it doesn't matter - but I would like to have them straight.

Thanks in advance!

I don't know, but generally, they have fewer knots and such, which weakens. That's what makes them "stronger"

A higher strength class has fewer knots, so there's a certain chance they are straighter. But straightness mostly depends on how the timber has been stored and dried, so there is no absolute correlation with grading.

Thanks for the quick response! Then I'll save that money and hope for straight and nice studs in C14 (y)

Without scientific evidence, I believe they are about as crooked as other beams. I went to buy C24 timber the other week, and half of what was available was completely unusable.

One must go to the lumber yard oneself and select to get densely grown and straight timber.
