Hello,
I have a house with a basement, and in the basement, there were interior walls set up in a room. What I intended to do was simply take down the wallpaper that was there and put up new wallpaper. So I started taking down the old wallpaper, and while doing that, I began to notice a bad smell.
It ended with me having to start tearing down the interior walls and then discovered a moisture damage problem due to poor drainage on the outside of the house. I also discovered that the interior walls were constructed incorrectly. They used wooden studs and insulated between the exterior wall and interior wall, where the insulation was directly against both walls, and thus the insulation had absorbed moisture and retained it.
The walls were built with particle board and drywall (Right/Wrong?).
Now I want to rebuild the walls, how should I do it?
The house was re-drained with podrän a year ago, and what I am certain about is that I will use steel studs.
But then what?
Is it safe to put insulation between the walls again, or should it be done without insulation?
What materials should be used to build the walls?
Hello ..
Now that you've dealt with the drainage around the house, the big problem is gone..
So now you can use studs and boards again, along with insulation.
As you can see in my sketch, you have your existing wall in the basement..
A small air gap doesn't hurt, so the wood will come from the wall
Here you can place 5 mm plastic spacers
Then you can follow the sketch..
And also put 5 mm plastic feet on the posts so the wood is off the floor..
A suggestion..
Kind regards
Eti..
Thank you for your suggestion....to my ears, it sounds like a good proposal .
Just a thought....is there no risk that moisture can remain trapped in the insulation between the sheets?
Yes, exactly.....I was thinking of using metal studs....but I thought the rest of the solution seemed to be good, though I'm wondering if there's a risk of trapping moisture in the insulation between the boards...
There are many good threads about this. Ventilated floor moldings, Platon membrane under the floor, etc. But was it an interior wall or is it against an exterior wall so to speak?
The best thing is not to insulate at all against the exterior wall in the basement but to do the insulation from the outside. As mentioned, search in threads. There's lots about this.

Absolutely right, basement walls should be insulated from outside. Never from the inside, it causes problems. If not now, then later. The drainage will not always work perfectly.
It is against 2 outer walls and against 2 inner walls... no, I've been thinking for a long time now about whether to insulate or not. I was completely clear not to insulate because everyone I talked to said it was wrong to insulate. But then I happened to see an episode of Arga Snickaren where they insulated just a basement room and it made me start thinking. I already have insulation from the outside since I have re-drained with podrän... But I still want to be sure that it will be warm enough since it might become a bedroom in the future.
