Hello Charlotte!

We are in the process of building a new 2-story house, and right now it seems like we will pour the slab and have the walls delivered as sandwich elements (prefab concrete with foam insulation).
Would you recommend a wooden or concrete intermediate floor?
If concrete - what type would you recommend and why?

Thank you in advance...

Wood or concrete is primarily a cost issue.

Concrete slabs dampen sound better, have less flex, experience less deflection over time, move in the same way as the walls but cost more and require a stronger construction in the foundation and ground floor.

A wood floor that is properly dimensioned and installed meets most people's requirements for sound insulation.

Concrete slabs can then be divided into two categories: Cast-in-place and prefabricated. Both are good but require proper handling both during planning and construction. Prefabricated is usually cheaper, but not always.
