I'm in the process of dividing a room with a wall, and the wall will run along the chimney stack. The wall will consist of regular wooden studs and gypsum. Does anyone know if there are any regulations regarding this? I don't want to encounter any issues when getting the chimney approved for use.

Yes, there are rules. Check with your chimney sweep or the person who performs inspections for this, ask them to come and look and tell you what you should do. I'm almost 100% sure that you can't just put the wall against the chimney any way you want.

okay I thought maybe there were general rules for such things

I would guess that you need to have an air gap and then clad the wall against the chimney stack with a minerit board. But as I said - your chimney sweeper will give you directives.
