Hello,

I am wondering what this insulation material around some pipes in our sports hall is, where we play, among other things, squash. The whole piece looks quite new and modern, but I just wanted to hear your thoughts?

I hope you can see enough in the pictures.

...and it doesn't look like asbestos if that was what you were worried about.

But if there are bends and branches that are sometimes hit by squash balls, it might be a bit obra.

And regardless of potentially dangerous material, I think there should be some type of mechanical protection (metal cage?) around pipe installations in a ball court.

If all insulation looks like this, with "plastic sheet" around it, then there is no asbestos, if that was what was concerning. This is modern insulation.

Mineral wool with some plastic material around (installed at least 25 years after asbestos was banned).

Agree that the plastic itself looks modern (but not as new as 2007, right?), but not the installation as a whole. The knob that is visible is, for example, the same as in my basement from '63.

The plastic looks the same today as it did in 2007. It comes in a variety of shades and colors.

The valve is older, that's correct. Probably at some point, they remodeled or renovated and removed the old insulation. It's not uncommon to remove old asbestos insulation and replace it with new.

Hello!

Thank you for all your responses, it is reassuring to hear that it likely isn't asbestos.

These pipes are installed in the ceiling of the hallways between the different playing fields, so there are no balls (usually) flying around right there. The entire facility is located in a kind of basement/souterrain.
