I am renovating a bit at home and now we have come to the older part of the house.
We are thinking about adding extra insulation, previously there was 3-4 cm on the inside of the wall.
On the outside, the paneling was nailed up sometime in the fifties but without battens and tar paper. Is there any reason not to have it? It feels like the paneling would fare better if it sits on battens? I plan to do it like the cross-section in the picture. (The gaps between are to make the image clearer.)
Has anyone done something similar?

No principal errors, except that it will likely be very difficult to achieve a completely tight vapor barrier in an old existing house, especially in connection to the roof, which can result in air leakage. This, at least theoretically, can lead to moisture problems.
It's a bit tricky with vapor barriers in older houses. Do you have natural ventilation or mechanical ventilation? If you have a well-functioning exhaust system, you should have negative pressure throughout the house, which should make your problem smaller or non-existent.

We are replacing everything so the moisture barrier should be sorted out. There is quite a bit of damaged timber, so there is a certain aroma in the house, the more that is behind plastic the better...
Will have natural ventilation plus the fan in the bathroom and the kitchen fan. Plus two stoves that exhaust air when they are on.
