I was just wondering if anyone has a better idea? I am planning to insulate an old slaughterhouse to make it usable as a workshop even in winter. The plan is to remove the paneling that is mostly rotten and shabby, to add insulation, and put on a new facade. The first problem is that the framework is 80mm and the insulation I was thinking of using is 70mm (Hunton wood fiber board) and then add 45mm extra insulation. Is there something I can use to fill that extra centimeter, or is it overkill?
The second problem is that the slaughterhouse is built with a masonry wall about 55cm above the concrete slab. I was thinking of solving this with Bewis plasterboard and 3cm plaster. Does this setup feel right, or should I do it differently?
Thanks and goodbye.

  • Old slaughterhouse with metal roof, wooden facade, and old window. Ladder placed by the wall for insulation renovation.
  • Old barn wall with red and wood siding, window, and large wooden door; ladder and boards in foreground.
  • Close-up of a wooden wall with insulation and a stone foundation, part of renovation work for better insulation of an old building.
Will probably be fine.
You could place porous board (12 mm) against the inner panel, so you eliminate the gap.

How will you attach the board to the wall? I'm planning to do the same, that's why I'm asking.

Byggmax sells some type of facade plug that I plan to use. I'm also thinking of attaching a reinforcing mesh/chicken wire on the outside so the plaster doesn't crack.

Aha, please show how you drill and fasten it so maybe I can do the same on the concrete wall I have!

You just drill through the board and into the wall and insert a plug. On isodrän's website, you can see how they do it. I don't think you necessarily need any reinforcement mesh, but it can never hurt, I think.

I have plastered on cell foam before but haven't hammered in plugs, that's why I ask, but I'll check. I can say that if you don't want cracks in the long run, then lay a mesh. If you're not sensitive, it's not needed, but I would still lay it at the joints as that's where you'll get movement first... tip.
