Hello. I have a conservatory of 30 sqm with a concrete slab and underfloor heating. I somewhat regret choosing a 32mm polycarbonate roof. Can I insulate it with foam plastic without an air gap? A carpenter said that it's fine to insulate it now. Or what do you suggest on how to do it or what to use? I'm not thinking of tearing it down. It's only 6 months old.

Best regards.

Since you probably only heat the space on certain occasions, it doesn't really matter how you do it. Air gaps in roofing contexts are normally needed behind organic materials like raw board if the roof with insulation is enclosed between two vapor-tight layers (vapor barrier + roofing felt). However, Styrofoam is not an optimal material for this purpose. Partly because it's difficult to get it to join tightly against the roof's wooden structure, and partly because it's far too light (= poor heat capacity). Heat radiation during the summer through a conservatory roof can be significant. Therefore, the best insulating material is really heavy mineral wool, such as ground board.

What does the rest of the construction of the sunroom look like? What temperature do you maintain in the sunroom now, and what do you want it to be? What is the temperature and weather like outside? Curious since I am just starting my own sunroom of approximately the same size and planned 32mm channel plastic roof.

hello, I just have a question. I have a similar conservatory as you. And I want to insulate under the channel plastic. I wonder how you did with your project, regards Jimmy wall
