Installing wooden flooring on concrete floor
Hello! I have a house with a basement from '61 and I'm going to install a floor in the basement. The base is concrete with construction plastic and then chipboard on top. Can I lay a click floor on that or should I remove everything and see how it looks underneath?
Always best to check what's underneath if you haven't done the foundation construction yourself, it would be a shame if there are problems after you've installed your new floor... I learned somewhere that plastic foil on basement floors is not a successful construction but that's just a gut feeling...
I will lift up a corner and see how it looks, it feels like a shame to tear up the floor that's already elevated but I found this when I googled! What do you think?

I went into a painting firm and they said I should tear everything out and then lay a platonmatta so the floor is ventilated!

Everything probably depends on how much moisture you have in your basement floor, moisture is always present. The moisture that always exists under a basement must be able to come up somewhere. I saw in an article in Gör Det Själv a few issues ago a good description, and they provided the option for ventilation along the walls so the moisture could escape there. Platon mat might not be a bad idea. In the article from Allt om Bostad, they write "and it suits well in the basement where there's less wear and little risk of moisture." As mentioned, you probably need to look at your specific basement, and a little peek under the existing structure seems smart.
