Throwing out my first thread on the forum....

I'm in the process of installing a wooden ceiling in my apartment and had planned to install spotlights in the hallway. The problem is that I ideally can only frame down just over 50mm from the ceiling, which consists of concrete/plaster + the 12mm thick panel. This is due to relatively tall wardrobe doors. The ceiling height is relatively high at 260cm. Most spotlights I find require some space above for cooling, but can this really be an issue since there isn't anything particularly flammable above the wooden ceiling? I'm installing a 12mm wooden panel.

Help me find some suitable spotlights, they should be able to be controlled with a dimmer function.

Or should I aim to frame down 100mm and solve the wardrobe door issue by modifying them?

Clas Ohlson has a great selection of spotlights... they usually have very good assistance as well!

Some spotlights that run on 12v don't get very hot, but the transformer can get a little warm if it's an electric one.. I don't know how to dim them either...

But check with them and you'll surely get really good answers!!

Good luck!

The specified measurement is usually for combustible material. That is, if you have a concrete ceiling, it should not apply.

However, you may need a certain distance to ensure adequate cooling of the lamp itself. The risk might be that you get poor lifespan on the lamps (that is, the bulbs). Many of the lamps also have an arm with connections on it that stick up towards the ceiling.

Keep in mind that you should have a heat-resistant cable.

You can use the same spotlights often used in kitchens, sometimes called furniture spots. They are shielded upwards so that they can be placed directly against combustible materials. Here's an example of such a lamp:

The installation depth is 16mm (i.e., the thickness of the lamp).

They obviously illuminate a bit less than their cousins with larger lamps, but if you place them a bit closer together, it shouldn't be a problem.

I am going to install http://www.elbutik.se/?category_id=12376 and, like you, I have a problem with ceiling height...however, I am lowering it by 8 cm (67 cm wood + 12.5 gypsum).

My first thought was to install http://www.elbutik.se/?category_id=5899 number 1210 but the additional cost for dimmers and transformers made me, since I had the opportunity, lower the ceiling a bit more.

Now my new wardrobe, which is 237 cm high, will have a full 3 cm to spare before the ceiling starts. ;)
