Install Supply Air Vent Above Window
Hello,
I am going to install the wall vent TL98F above the window in the upstairs bedroom of a 1.5-story Eurohouse, 1980. A ventilation expert recommended making a hole above the window for the most comfortable airflow. I already installed a vent in one bedroom and will install a similar one in the adjacent bedroom in the same way. When I drilled the hole, 108 cm in diameter, I went through a beam. The hole was made in the middle above the window. Now my question is whether this was a mistake or if it's safe? I thought there can't be much weight resting on the beam if there's a window below, but I'm far from a building expert and the question is whether the hole affects the load-bearing capacity? Anyone know more? Thank you.

The beam is there for a reason and has not been sized to have a large hole in it. Probably nothing will happen. In the worst case, it might be difficult to open the window that has to take over the load. On the upper floor, the supply air vent might become an exhaust vent since the air pressure is higher there (warm air rises). Especially if you have natural draft ventilation. Wind direction also affects. On the leeward side of the house, a negative pressure is created.

Thank you for your response. I feel that the air is stagnant on the upper floor, so on recommendation, I will install a vent in each room. I have also recently installed a Pax bathroom fan that runs continuously. I meant a 108mm hole, as you surely understood. I took three pictures of how it looks, one vent is fully installed, and one is to be installed. The window under the vent is not openable, so that won't be a problem, but there is a door next to it. I will now install a vent in the other room, which is essentially identical. It would be most visually appealing to place it at a similar height and location, but if I understand you correctly, you would recommend placing it under the beam and perhaps next to the window instead? It sounds like you are well-versed in this, so I appreciate your responses. Thanks again.
