It's soon time to move into a townhouse from a condominium.
Planning to redo the wallpaper in the living room but considering building out one of the walls first so that cables for the TV/speakers, etc. can be run behind. The electricity is currently run on the outside. Thinking of building out since I'm not quite sure how the walls are constructed, I can ask neighbors/inspector later when it's time, but I'm a bit afraid to tear them down because of insulation and having a neighbor on the other side.
Is it just a matter of framing with 45x45 or 45x70 and tubes for the cables, of course? Then just patch on drywall, extra studs where I know we'll mount the TV, etc. Is there anything specific to think about? Can the studs be against the old wall or should there be some gap, is any insulation needed?
Might as well do it properly since we'll probably live there for the rest of our lives. Grateful for answers from a novice.

If it is a wall against a neighbor, it may be a fire wall. Then you are not allowed to make holes in it for electrical boxes etc. That could be a reason why it is surface mounted.
It should be OK to extend it as you are thinking, but keep in mind that enclosing the electrical work requires certification. The cables that are currently surface mounted are likely of type EKRK which cannot be enclosed.

There will be no electrical outlet behind the TV, just a hole for cable threading through a conduit, and 2 smaller conduits for the speakers, everything will exit in the middle at the bottom hidden by furniture. : )
The only wall work I've done is when I turned a door opening into a wall. So I was thinking more about the practical side, it's about 4.2m wide, are 45x45 studs enough? Install the conduits, OSB then drywall. Do I need to insulate or is it okay to leave it empty inside?
