Don't know if this is the right forum section but does anyone know if a vaulted ceiling leads to increased energy consumption and if so, approximately how much? :)
 
With the same amount of insulation, consumption increases directly proportionally to the increase in roof area.

I don't believe that for a second. Why would that be the case? You get less wall area instead.

However, in general, you do get higher ceilings, meaning a larger amount of air to heat up. Additionally, the warmest air tends to stay up by the ridge.

You mean that the normally comfortable heat point rises higher up and that you compensate for the colder surface by increasing the local heat there.

Kind of like raising the heat in the whole house by a degree with the accompanying higher energy consumption?
