Instead of building a regular boardwalk, I thought of building a shorter suspension bridge over a wetland. I have fairly thick rope (about 30 mm in diameter) that I plan to use, but I think it might not withstand moisture and cold very well. Does anyone have tips on how I can treat the rope to give it a longer lifespan?
Wood tar, pitch, and turpentine in an appropriate mixture. Google on the wooden ship sites and check how they do it. A good start can be http://www.soic.se
Pork fat would extend the rope's lifespan quite a bit, especially in warm weather conditions. Otherwise, burn the fat and massage the rope with the liquid you get from burning the fat.
