Import building materials?

Hello!

I have received a quote from a supplier in Canada (of all places) and find the price very interesting, but in the quote, he also writes the following lines: "less import duty and local taxes". What does this mean? Will I have to pay additional fees beyond what I pay to the supplier? Customs? VAT? How does it actually work, does anyone know?
