I have a 1970s house made of Mexitegel with vertical panels on the gables and around the garage roof. The planks are different, with an overlapping grooved board next to an underlying one. I need to buy a few meters but the local hardware store doesn't know what it's called. Does anyone know what I'm looking for?

  • A measuring square over dark wooden panels, showing the texture and grooves. Used to identify panel type for a 70s house renovation project.
False panel

Well, but what is the profile called? A normal falspanel has two different sides so you can lock them together. This one has the same profile on both sides and two different profiles so you alternate boards.

I know what they look like...

I think it looks like 145 z-panel.

Yep, if you sawed the Z-panel in half and glued the right sides with each other and the left sides with each other. Then you get something similar. But it feels like a bit too much work.

No, then each board is the same!

They're called z panel because they look the same. I think it's probably 145 z panel. I've installed some this summer.

  • White wooden shed with Z panels beside a brick house, surrounded by gravel driveway and greenery under a cloudy sky.

yes z-panel false panel etc replaces what you have. the appearance becomes identical to what you have. don't make life more complicated than it is😊

Wanted to avoid replacing the 50-60 meters we currently have before winter. But some are so damaged that water is getting in and the gutters have come loose. So I thought I'd make it easy for myself and replace the maybe two meters that are cracked.

TS panel doesn't look the same, so it's hard to argue that it's a z-panel with that reasoning.

What kind of panel is it then? I don't think it looks like groove panel false anyway.

I don't know what it's called. A double phase with bottom and cover I've never seen. Maybe something planed at home.

If you find a z-panel with reasonably correct dimensions, you should be able to use it and adjust the last board in the trimming saw.
