Ideas on how to route network cable between 2 floors
Not sure if it's possible to get good advice without being on site, but I thought I'd try to get a few more ideas. My main issue is that a former bedroom is being converted into an office, and I want to have network outlets. There is wiring to other rooms in the house, but I can't see how I can "splice" from there.
However, what's good is that this new office is directly above our small home gym, which also has space for the electrical panel, incoming fiber, patch panel, router, etc. From there, there are already 4 other CAT6 cables to outlets, but to completely different areas.
I basically just want to go maybe 30-40 cm straight down to be in the gym, and from there I have a few meters to the aforementioned cabinet. In the office, there is an old phone jack, where I could absolutely place the network outlet. But this seems to be an abandoned conduit that I can't figure out the path of. According to old plans (the house was built in 1926, extended in the '60s), the phone jack leads under the floor in a completely different direction to another outlet; an outlet that no longer exists and instead there's a fireplace(!). I can get a pull rod down, and it stops about as far away as the fireplace (10m).
On the other side of the window in the office, there are heating pipes to the radiator. They go into the wall (lightweight concrete) and clearly come out in the gym.
One idea I had was to basically do the same thing.
Edit: It should say "old phone jack" in picture 2!

- Dig out the phone jack
- Break down the wall on the inside down to the floor
- Somehow continue down through everything
- Come out in the wall/ceiling in the gym directly below
- Lay a conduit and patch it up
- Finish the last stretch to the tech cabinet

Are the basement walls much thicker than the outer walls on the upper floor? Is the upper floor a wooden structure with a plastered surface? Is the ceiling cast between floors or is it a wooden beam ceiling?
If you need to get up to the telephone jack, the option is to drill upwards. But it's a shame to pull an Erwin through the parquet 8cm out into the floor
Otherwise, it's about opening up an inner wall (or the outer wall for that matter) and drilling straight down. There will be some patching and painting. But you don't risk the floor.

Thanks for the answer! Found an alternative solution.Semiproffset said:

It is cast between the floors. It's a bit difficult to explain, but basically, I drilled diagonally down from a wall on the middle floor and came out in the ceiling of this room on the lower floor. This wall on the middle floor is shared with the room I wanted the network outlet in, but I drilled "from the other side" to get the right angle.
Then I drilled straight through the wall, into the room where I wanted (this wall is lightweight concrete) and there I could install a recessed network outlet.
I ran a conduit through the holes I drilled, two cables through these, and on the lower floor, they then run along the ceiling/wall to get to the patch panel. Spent hours troubleshooting why I couldn't get 1 Gbit but only 100 Mbit at first in both outlets. I was sure I must have connected something wrong. But it turned out in the end that I had managed to use a cat5 cable between the patch panel and the router...
A bit of putty and paint on that, and I was quite satisfied with what I managed to do.
But yes, it ended up a bit in this direction
