Planning to install Huntonit boards (or rather ByggMax budget boards) on the basement ceiling. Due to low ceiling height, I want to build up as little as possible and therefore plan to screw them directly into the existing "ceiling," which consists of 6 mm masonite on a wooden joist structure. It’s straight and nice, so I don't need to add battens for that reason.

I can't think of any specific problems with doing this, but I wanted to ask for a "second opinion." No air gap should be needed.

Are you able to access the studs above the masonite or will you only screw into the masonite?

Yes, I can reach the studs (cc 400) and I am laying the tiles across so it shouldn’t fall down.

Have installed about 80-90sqm huntonit boards and spontaneously it feels like it might be difficult to slide the panels into each other due to the friction against the ceiling (at least those few mm you need to adjust to not end up completely wrong at the end).
