I have done similar with other wood boards. If it's the fake wood pattern that bothers you, a thick paint like Flügger primer + wall paint will remove it.

You save an incredible amount of time by keeping the existing ceiling. There's nothing wrong with it.

One advantage of what you have is that it seems to work quite well as a floor if gravity ever decided to rotate 180 degrees.

Ok which Flugger primer should I choose? There were several different ones.
