I have 36 cubic meters of birch firewood lying about 30 meters from the basement stairs leading into the boiler room where the wood is to be stored. This distance of 30 meters consists of 20 meters of open area with gravel and the last 10 meters is a gravel path about 130 cm wide running along the house.

I have 2 wheelbarrows and usually place an OSB board in the basement stairs and tip the wheelbarrow straight down the stairs until it’s full there, then climb down into the boiler room and start stacking the wood.

As you might imagine, this is not my favorite chore, and there must be a better way to transport the wood to the boiler room. I don't have a tractor or conveyor belt. Even with an extra-large wheelbarrow fully loaded, it's still about 300 trips back and forth. How do you others who heat with wood manage? And regardless of whether you use wood, do you have any tips on what can be done to make the wood moving more efficient?
