I'm going to mount a rather heavy TV on the wall and need to remove a drywall panel to brace behind it for better stability. When reading about wall mounting on different sites, they mostly mention concrete or wooden studs. But I have steel studs. Is that better or worse than wood? And how do you brace between steel studs? Is it okay to brace with a wooden stud?

One option is to insert a wooden board between the reglerna. It hardly needs to be attached to the reglerna.

Well, I do want to attach it to the joists. Doesn't feel stable otherwise.

you attach a beam or plywood and screw into the flange of the beam. then attach the drywall, making the board as wide as the inside of the beams.

Screwing in the flange works well on one side, but "livet" is in the way on the other side. It should be that the opening of the U is facing the same direction.

As mentioned, you don't need to attach a nogging on the back. It should be enough to just recess it behind the drywall.

How heavy is the TV? Is it a swiveling mount?

There are nogging straps that you attach to the outside of the flange, between the stud and the drywall. But the easiest again is a plywood piece behind. It's sufficient for a sink without any problem.

For a TV mount that isn't swiveling, a few molly bolts or similar should suffice. And preferably if you get some screws through the stud.

I have finished the wiring now and am in the process of plastering the wall before painting.

The TV weighs 23 kilos and the mount 7 kg. It's a swivel arm, yes. Now it's guaranteed to hold in any case. Wired with sturdy brackets and many screws and also used house fix in all the small joints I found.
