Hello,
The plan is to renovate the basement den quite soon and would like to remove the panel and maybe plaster the walls, currently have no moisture problems and obviously want to continue with that, so the question is what should one consider?
The electrical and radiator pipes I thought could be channeled in, so I don't see that as a problem, but the big question is how best to do the wall itself, can one just apply plaster or is there a step one needs to pay extra attention to in order to avoid moisture problems?

  • Thermostat valve attached to a wall, surrounded by wooden paneling, indicating a heating element setup in a room undergoing renovation.
  • Wood-paneled basement room with a small window shelf filled with books. Radiator cover visible; cardboard box and items on the floor.
Considered simply painting the panel white...?

The idea has been discussed, but we are not particularly keen on it even though it would be a significantly simpler solution.

Plaster on top of the panel then...?

It has been discussed, assuming that it should not cause any moisture problems to do so, but the best option should be to have nothing on the walls and still have it look nice, which is why we are thinking of plastered walls. Without being particularly skilled in the subject, it seems like the solution that is best for the house.

The current solution/wall seems to work well, so it should be enough to spruce up the surface. That is unless you're thrilled by sun-bleached pine paneling
Don’t fix what ain’t broken...
