How to remove drywall without damaging the ceiling (photo)?
Hello,
I need to re-plaster a wall due to new windows and such.
I've done this before and struggled with all sorts of tools to remove the last piece of wall plaster that's inside/above the ceiling plaster. The staples are also level with the ceiling plaster. I want to do as little damage to the vapor barrier as possible.
How do you usually do it? Is there any tool?
I'm considering a vibrating multi-tool and cutting the plaster at the height of the lower edge of the ceiling plaster. It should be enough to attach new wall plaster.
Ideas?

Just plaster over the old one? Junction boxes aren't a problem, there are extension rings.

Unfortunately, I can't do that since I want to extend the plasterboard over half of the window frame and thereby avoid using trim. The old plasterboard doesn't currently cover the frame, which would then mean using trim if I do as you suggest.
But thanks anyway.

You could try to make a custom tool from something you already have. For example, tape a piece of wood to a handsaw to create a depth stop. Place a piece of masking tape on the saw blade at the front and attach a wooden strip parallel to the saw teeth about 11 mm from the tips of the teeth. Then place the saw blade against the ceiling and saw into the wall. The piece of wood will stop the saw from going completely through the drywall and damaging the plastic. You might need to switch sides of the stop to be able to saw in the corners.
Buy yourself a multimaster, excellent tool.
This purchase might not be justified by the task you're going to perform. But after you've bought it, you'll wonder how you managed without it
It is also possible to cut the plaster with a gipskniv depending on how much plaster you need to cut.

Just bought a multitool at Classe 969 kr Bosch 180. Works great to take the plaster with.
Just as Bloink writes, you wonder... I've previously struggled with chisels and homemade hooks. Penny wise, pound foolish.
