Hello!
I'm standing here with a torn wall right under a beam. To make the ceiling even, I need to build it up. My plan is plaster followed by putty and then painting. I've done this successfully in other places. However, I have two questions.

1. Will it adhere to the steel beam? If not, is primer enough, or how should I proceed to make it stick? I'm a happy amateur, and the hardware store couldn't help me.
2. I'm unsure (and can't measure right now), but it MAY be that I need to build more than the 60mm the product can handle. Does this mean I can apply thicker layers as long as I let it set in between, or do I need to reinforce it? How do you typically reinforce such small indoor projects? Some variant of chicken wire that I attach to the material on the sides? And now I'm really exposing my ignorance: do you place the mesh and try to "press up" the plaster inside it, or do you apply a bit of mortar and then attach the mesh afterward? I'm failing in my googling.

Or are there easier/better alternatives?

/Erik
