We have a fireplace, see image below, that we want to smooth out.
White brick fireplace with decorative candles and plants; uneven surface needs smoothing.

The difference between the highest and lowest points on it is about 3 cm.
A textured white brick fireplace with a blue glass item on top, showcasing uneven surfaces for smoothing.

How do we do this in the best way? What type of plaster should be used? Is reinforcement mesh necessary?

We will not be using it for a fire at all if that affects which type of plaster is best to use.

Render C 3mm, fill everything first so it becomes fairly filled then another round.

Okay, thanks! So no need for a reinforcement mesh or anything like that? It's enough to just apply the render in rounds?
