We need help, would like to get rid of the beam and pole that are in a very awkward position as we want an open floor plan kitchen/living room. We are considering this since it doesn't seem to be the entire joist but they are staggered. Can we then put a new one next to it? A full length would be about 5m wall to wall, and screw and glue it to the existing joists? So we place two new 5-meter beams on either side of the old ones from wall to wall so we wouldn't need the pole and beam? Alternatively, we're not sure why the beam is where it is since the joints seem to be staggered and they seem satisfied with the jointing in places where the beam doesn't lie. Would it be enough just to joint the ones under the beam?

  • Interior of a partially renovated room with exposed beams and insulation, featuring a wall oven, a man sitting on a chair, and construction materials.
  • Ceiling with exposed wooden beams and insulation in a room under renovation, with windows and a view of a partially visible car outside.
