Hello!

Not sure if this is flooring or construction technique.

After water damage, the new floor has become higher than the old one. Soon tile will be laid, and currently, the interior stair stringers are directly on the self-leveling compound. The new tiles are 60×60.

I'm not for puzzles with tile pieces and quarter rounds, but want the stringers to stand on the tile.

Advice and thoughts before the discussion with the flooring contractor?
What is industry practice?

The carriage piece probably stands firmly on the float and cannot be lifted. Some parts are in the air and others might be attached to the wall. The part in the air usually can be lifted slightly, but the one on the wall is probably firm; normally, the floor is laid before the staircase, so it stands on the finished floor. The options are to build it into the floor or cut it off; it may be problematic to saw so precisely and at a 90-degree angle. A skilled floor layer can make it look neat around, but it must be calculated precisely so that it preferably does not end up in the middle of a tile.
