Bought an aluminum disc valve that looked really nice when it was new, but now that it's mounted in the chimney, it looks awful...
What's the best long-lasting solution, should I leave it as is, paint, polish, or do you have other suggestions?
I think it's lacquered, but I've scraped it off now.
Considering painting the fixed part that is plastered with the same silicate paint as the chimney, but then there's the issue of the plate. Spraying with wheel paint doesn't sound bad, but I'm afraid it will peel over time. Polishing is an option but there's a risk it will become ugly again.
I usually polish stainless on the truck with that product and it lasts quite a while in those conditions (8000km/month), same with good wheel paint, it's quite durable.

Sounds like it's a good polish agent...
Aluminum oxidizes more than stainless steel.
On the other hand, there will be a geothermal heat pump next to it, so it will hardly be visible...
Autosol and aluminum create a black oxide sludge that can be tricky to remove. It also tends to get permanently stuck in the polish. Try using a green Scotch-Brite and a little water first.
