Hello,

I have bought cool 2-meter long 200x200 mm posts that I plan to use as "gate" posts.

However, I haven't figured out yet how to secure them. :) I find it hard to believe that it would be stable by just casting a large footing and only using a footing bracket without shoes. Or will it be stable if I have 2-3-4 footing brackets around?

Thankful for help.

You could cast them into a custom-made footing?
At least if they are pressure-treated.

They are not treated. I think they will probably rot away within 10 years then, right?
However, I've been considering if I should protect the bottom of the post, and then just place it in compacted gravel...

If you take sturdy plinth iron and cast your own coarse plinth, it will work well. Plinth iron with through bolts and nuts is significantly better than post shoes if you are going to hang gates on them. Assumes they are made of wood.

Larger post iron or profiles. A regular U- or I-beam, for example, has the potential to be much sturdier than a flat iron.

Should a gate be hung on them, or should they just be decoration? If they are to support a gate, then a diagonal brace is significantly stronger than just a base mounting.

Yes, a gate is planned in the long run... right now I'm thinking of just casting him down and hoping for 15 good years. 💪🏾
