Hello, I would like your good advice and tips when it comes to the stairwell in our ongoing house construction. The house is being built in an old style, and this should be reflected in and around the stairs as well. There are two staircases.
The plan is for a U-shaped staircase that will start by a tiled stove and go up to the upper floor. The basement stairs will be enclosed with a door, and the walls will be clad in beadboard.
How close to the tiled stove can the staircase be placed, and how much space should there be around the middle of the staircase for it to be well enclosed?
How do you actually enclose a staircase with a door and wall?
The first step is supposed to be a landing step that gently curves around the tiled stove, I think. This is where the limestone surrounding the tiled stove and the floor border will meet/disappear under the staircase.
I am attaching a picture of the location and one of a staircase sketch from a staircase manufacturer, mostly to show the general layout.
Feel free to ask any follow-up questions you need, I have probably missed some important details....
@findus42, I saw that you provided really good input for another staircase that was going to be enclosed when I was searching around. Could you give some input on my stairwell? 🙃
There is nothing to react to. It's very typical at the beginning of a project. You have a vision that is still unclear to others even if it seems clear to you. If you draw out how you think, perhaps the constructions will become clearer. That is a step forward in itself. If you post your sketches here, there might be things to comment on.
Sometimes when someone asks me for work without having any concrete basis, I make suggestions without aiming to get it right or good. Quick guesses. The purpose is to find out what they want. Even if they can't articulate their vision, they can say what is wrong. It's always easier to receive criticism than information 🙄.
Hey! But there is a measured proposal on how the stairs would look. I can barely draw, but those stairs fit the picture from reality. I thought the fundamental questions were clear. How do you normally build in a staircase? Do you build a wall in the gap in the middle or frame under the stringer at the top or bottom? Should a wall with a door preferably be outside the staircase or in line with it? Those are some of the questions...
Maybe it's clearer now?
This one is quite similar to how it might end up looking, but instead of being open to the left, our rörspis would be there. Image borrowed from the internet.
