The plumber has installed a distribution cabinet with the opening facing the adjacent room. I am going to close up the wall with OSB and drywall. But the problem is that the cabinet is deeper than the wall. The wall is 70 mm and the cabinet sticks out just over 30 mm beyond the studs. A water heater will be placed in this spot, so visually this will not be visible. How would you make this work well?

OSB: 11
Drywall: 12.5

That totals 23.5 and is therefore not enough to cover the cabinet. Could I let the cabinet stick out a bit and just seal it? Since it will not be visible anyway? Or what solutions are available?

  • Plumbing distribution cabinet extends from wall frame with visible pipes and insulation; wall construction involves OSB and gypsum board.
If there is space for it, the easiest way is to add to the existing studs now so that the last plasterboard ends outside the cabinet. But you lose about 20 mm in the room.

I'm just going to build out around the hatch. Not the entire wall. I have also already installed OSB boards on the rest of the wall.

If it's not visible anyway, can't you just put panels around the cabinet and let it stick out a bit into the room?

Yes, but on studs? Or double OSB? Can the cabinet protrude and then seal? How would you have done it?

I had placed some kortlingar where they fit and just sawed the boards to fit around the cabinet. No sealing is needed.

Can't I just let the box stick out? Nothing visible anyway
