Going to build a cabinet under a staircase. Have cut 12mm MDF that I’m now going to screw in - wondering a bit how.

Was thinking about screwing 3-4 screws straight through the board into the back of the tread. Do you think that's enough? Wasn’t planning to screw anything at the top, hoping the board stays put anyway. The wood moves a bit and I don’t want any creaking.

Picture from behind:
Back view of a 12mm MDF board positioned under a staircase step, ready for screws to secure it in place.

Some measurements:
Distance between treads: 150 mm
Thickness of tread: 40 mm
Height MDF: 190 mm

Would have done the same. If it feels creaky, I would add an angle bracket in the middle up to the step above.

There is no force pressing on the MDF.
