Living in an apartment from 47. The walls are brick with at least 5 cm of some kind of plaster that is very porous on the outside. I have now repainted and laid flooring but have difficulty installing new baseboards since most of the plaster behind is damaged from a number of similar attempts over 65 years. Is there a smart solution for this - I've asked carpenters who say that nail plugs might be a solution combined with gluing - but wouldn't it be incredibly difficult to renovate next time!? Tips!

I drilled deep holes into the brick/concrete and used suitable plugs and screws.
However, if it is damaged from before, it might need to be repaired first.

One way could be to remove all the plaster from just below floor level and about two to three centimeters up, then glue/nail/screw strips/laths that are as thick as the plaster, after which the baseboards are screwed/nailed to the newly set strips/laths.
