Sketching a holiday home and considering adding a loft. I'm thinking about experimenting with different heights of the house to see what will be left for the loft.
I've understood that the standard is about 2.4m from floor to ceiling in a normal ground floor, but I want to know how thick a ceiling/floor of the loft should be. I'm also interested in what it is constructed from, does anyone possibly have a sketch of a standard floor/ceiling?
The house is made of wood, about 7.4m wide, and over 10m long. Loft on half and the rest open.
I assume load-bearing walls will be needed, is there a good rule of thumb for how these should be placed?

It depends on the choice of materials such as the internal ceiling and floor covering, but also the floor joists you need, which depend on the span.L Luffare said:Sketching on a vacation home and considering using a loft. But the total measurement will be internal ceiling+battens+floor joist+floor chipboard+floor

If you are concerned about keeping the construction height low, you can fiddle with the structure a lot. More load-bearing walls/beams, steel frames, laying glulam, so-called CLT etc.
