Unfortunately, I've already started... I want to close up a doorway in the basement. The wall is 220 mm thick, initially, I thought of just framing with wood and tar paper against concrete, since the wall is thick, I thought of using 170 framing, OSB + drywall.
As you see, I started knocking down the plaster to make room for the framing and it's not going so well. Therefore, I'm now wondering if it might be better to brick it up with blocks of reasonable size instead?
I gladly welcome suggestions and ideas for a layman.
Thanks for the response, I have probably decided to build up with 190 mm lecablocks and will then have about 15 mm on each side for plastering, will probably be the best transition to the existing wall.
A follow-up question is that the door opening is somewhere between 920-930 mm wide and the blocks are 590 wide. Can I build so that I use whole and half blocks and have slightly wider joints, or will that be wrong? It will require much more splitting and consumption if I need to do differently.
