One of the posts in my stair railing has rotted in the wood and needs replacement. However, I'm wondering if anyone has seen this construction as a prefab or if it might have been made by the carpenter on site? It is a steel post mounted in the staircase around which a wooden post is built. I can't find anything similar with a quick online search. Grateful for any input on this construction. I think the pictures explain it.
