Good evening

I'm considering retrofitting an electric motor to the garage door. A question that came up is how do you lock it? Does it lock with the help of the motor? If so, what do you do if the power goes out or if the batteries in the remote control run out?

Thanks in advance

I lock my crawford with a key, actually don't know if it just turns off the remote opening or if it locks mechanically.. (have never tried)

to open our gate, you have to disconnect it if the power is out.. I think there was something to buy so you could do it from outside too..

Doesn't feel like the gate can be opened if you've just closed it with the remote either, so the person trying to enter unlawfully will likely think it's locked..

If you can enter the garage from another way, go in there and open from the inside. If you can only enter the garage through the door, you must add a lock to the door.

Thanks for the quick response!

If I understand you correctly, you lock your gate with a key? Then you still have to get out of the car anyway?

Doesn't feel like.. Is that an assumption or have you tried to open it when it was just closed with the remote?

Doesn't seem like it.. Is that an assumption or have you tried opening it when it's only been locked with the remote?

No, I have a remote-controlled gate, but if I want to lock the gate, I have to get out of the car, but I haven't locked the gate at all (welcome thieves) since you can't force it as long as the motor isn't disengaged..

Watch the clip and maybe you'll understand

It is possible to place a plate in front of the clutch so it cannot be accessed as they do in the clip.
Many gate suppliers deliver the gate with a lock OR motor, if you buy it with a motor, the lock is often an option.

And check this out on how the emergency release can be used by thieves.

Make sure your garage is empty or better locked.

Lucky I have doors without windows ;)

Ours has a disengagement with a lockable knob on the outside. You have to unlock it and then it's like a patio door handle that you turn to disengage the system. We have a full door (without windows) and a "frame" that lies above the door, so the trick in the video definitely doesn't work for us... :)
