How heavy can I put up on an aerated concrete/blue concrete wall
Hi
I have taken over a larger storage room in the basement of our apartment building. I want to put up shelves, but the walls are made of lightweight concrete or blue concrete (from the 50s house) - is it still possible if you use the right screws and anchors?
How heavy can the shelves be?
I'm also considering a wall-mounted bar for pull-ups - that would be nearly 90 kilos hanging out a bit from the wall.. feels scary on a porous wall...
Thanks!
/Martin

Place one or a few of these instead:
Simple and cheap.

The brackets for such bars are often small, aren't they? Instead, screw in slightly higher battens, and then the bar into these, so you distribute the load over a larger area on the wall. I have heavily loaded Elfa shelves in the pantry, but the wall rail runs almost the entire distance between the floor and ceiling.
I use these for almost everything that needs to hang on my walls nowadays. Heavy mirrors, hat shelf, cabinet frames in the laundry room, etc.

Then these kinds of wall rails and brackets are a good alternative:M MartinS1980 said:

Thanks! I'm leaning towards building the chin bar myself and will make sure to spread out the fastenings - good tip with using a batten behind to distribute the load.J JeLö said:The mount for such bars is usually small, isn't it? So plugs in lättbetong? - I saw some screws that could go in without plugs, but the ones you're suggesting I've used before, just not in lättbetong.
The plug I recommended is specifically for lightweight concrete. The hole should be drilled significantly smaller than the plug, which is then hammered in. It's the only plug I've found that works well in my lightweight concrete house. Regular plugs tend to start spinning when you insert the screw, regardless of the hole size. I've never tried lightweight concrete screws, so unfortunately, I don't know how they compare.
Thanks again, I'll try the plug and aerated concrete screws in a non-sensitive area and then pull, drag, and load, and we'll seeJ JeLö said:The plug I recommended is specifically for aerated concrete. The hole should be drilled much smaller than the plug, which is then hammered in.
