Is it possible to mount a TV on log walls?

We have an old timber house from the 1800s, where some interior walls have exposed timber. We think it's very beautiful but now we need to have a TV on just such a wall. Is it possible to screw a TV wall mount directly into the timber, or should we simply place the TV on a bench in that case to avoid screwing?

Works great. Pre-drill if possible to avoid cracks in the wood
